What is Next for Fr. Joe?

People frequently asked what I would do once I am ordained.

I was ordained as a priest for the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis.  As such, I serve under obedience to the Archbishop, to whom the spiritual care of the people living in 12 counties around the Twin Cities has been entrusted.

On May 26 my classmates and I had lunch with Archbishop John Nienstedt.  He gave us the option of us each receiving a sealed envelope at the start of the meal or at the end.  All but one of us chose the end.  So over desert we were handed the envelopes.  Mine read that I am appointed to Nativity of Our Lord Parish in St. Paul, effective June 15 for an undetermined term.  The St. Paul Seminary, where I have been the past 4  years, is within the boundaries of the parish, so I ended up moving only about a mile.  In fact, as a seminarian, I would often go to Nativity to pray in its 24 hour adoration chapel.

Fr. Patrick Hipwell is the pastor of Nativity.   I am the associate pastor, technically known as the Parochial Vicar.  While my term is unlimited, I will most likely be here for 2 years, before moving on to a similar responsibility at another church.  Nativity is one of the gem parishes of the Archdiocese.  Parishoners are actively involved and Nativity has a thriving school with about 800 students.  For more information about the parish, go to: http://www.nativity-mn.org/

And for more information about the other 6 great guys who were ordained with me, the Archdiocesean Newspaper ran a feature on us.  To see it go to:
